How to Use Cricut “Speaking Of” Cartridges

When the “Speaking of” Cartridges came out from Cricut, I was very excited. I like the look of the multi-layered die cuts. They have a bit more dimension and really stand out. I have heard from so many people that they were scared to use these cartridges because they thought it would be too difficult, or that they wouldn’t understand how to do it anyway. So, I finally decided to put together a title for my daughter’s scrapbook using the Speaking of School. I found the project easy to do, but a bit time-consuming. However, I was thrilled with the end result.
First of all, I want to point out that you need to get out the instruction binder that comes with the cartridge. This will make your life so much easier! Turn to the letter you would like to cut out, and then look to see what the “Layers” function will cut out. You will cut out a base letter to which all the layers will be adhered to. Part of that base letter will show in your end product, so don’t go thinking it is a waste of paper!
Then you cut out the layers in another color or colors. Once all pieces are cut out, you use your adhesive to apply the layers on top of the base letter. I found it useful to look at the colored examples provided in the instruction binder. Not only did it give me good ideas for which colors to use, but it also showed where I might want to take a colored marker and add some flair. For instance, once I had cut out my letter D which was made of rulers, I took a black marker and added little black dashes to really give it that ruler look. I also used a white marker to add white accents. I simply looked on the examples provided in the instruction booklet and added white marker wherever there were white accents.
However, I couldn’t stop there. Most of my scrappin’ friends know how crazy I am about things that sparkle, so I HAD to add some Sparkles glitter glue to accent the water/drinking fountain that made up the number 2.
Overall, I would highly recommend trying this look. I am going to have to get the other “Speaking Of’s” and try my hand at those too! But when I open the scrapbook to this particular 2-page layout, my eyes are instantly drawn to this title because it looks soooooo coooooool!!!!!!!!!!
Here are the rest of the pictures, as well as a pic of all the products I used.

This is pretty great I love my Cricut, my “speaking of” set is on it’s way right now! I also use this new airbrush tattoo scrapbook kit from http://www.tatstore.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1327, the investment on these two products was pretty big, but now I can embellish for pretty much free.
